從小,申快東就沉浸在韓國傳統樂器中。 在他父親「君子必懂音樂」的信念引導下,他大約九歲開始學習洋琴풍류 (yanggeum-pungryu),後來擴展到伽倻琴、大笒、短簫풍류 (danso-pungryu) 和散調加락 (sanjo garak)。
雖然他被公認為玄琴大師,但他伽倻琴演奏的錄音卻極為罕見。 本專輯收錄的伽倻琴散調來自1984 年的卡式錄音帶,由金在善 (Kim Jae-seon)(亞洲唱片)擔任杖鼓伴奏,並由朴世妍 (Park Se-yeon)修復。
