Seventeen makes a comeback in 2017, ushering in a new era!
‘Al1’, an album that shows the hardships and deep friendship of Seventeen members
The title song ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ opens the ‘Age of Sorrow’ where a boy faces and overcomes sadness! The group Seventeen, which has solidified its position as a trending idol both at home and abroad with modifiers such as refreshing idol and self-produced idol, will return with a new appearance with the first album of 2017, ‘Al1’, on May 22nd. SEVENTEEN’s first album ‘Al1’, which opens the year of 2017 with its namesake, contains SEVENTEEN’s new charm that exceeds expectations.‘Al1’ contains another stage of the boy’s growth shown in the albums Seventeen released over the past two years. If Seventeen’s songs such as ‘I Love You’, ‘Hurray’, ‘Pretty’, ‘Very NICE’, and ‘Boom Boom’ are stories of a boy discovering the feelings of love, then ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ is the deepest feeling he ever felt for the first time in his life. It is a song about a moment of sadness. When the moment came when the boy might lose someone who meant his entire life, the despair and pure heart of never wanting to lose it were expressed with the words ‘I don’t want to cry.’ Seventeen maintained the pure boyish emotions they had shown so far, but revealed a deeper side. To show these deep emotions, ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ was also Seventeen’s first attempt at EDM in earnest. The lyrical sensibility of the synthesizer and the intense beats intersect to capture Seventeen’s feelings that make them feel like tears are flowing, but they do not want to cry. In particular, the beat that captures the listener’s ears through sad emotions is fascinating. ‘Al1’ will include 6 new songs, including ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’.

Additionally, ‘Al1’ and ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ announce the beginning of the ‘Seventeen Project’ that will continue for Seventeen in 2017. The personal video teaser that Seventeen released before their comeback was a start for this purpose, and the video showed lonely images of the members alone as well as images of them connecting with other members. As the name of the album ‘Al1’ suggests, the story of each member ‘Alone(1)’ is told in a mysterious atmosphere. This is connected to the emotions of a lonely and sad boy contained in ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’, and is also the beginning of Seventeen’s story that will continue in the future. The ‘Age of Sadness’ opens, where boys who have learned about the emotion of sadness spend a period of their youth facing that emotion. Attention is being paid to what kind of story Seventeen will develop starting with ‘Al1’.

Additionally, another highlight of ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ is the performance that shows the highest level of perfection in Seventeen’s history. Seventeen, who has already shown many outstanding performances as a self-produced idol group, plans to show an unprecedented performance that surpasses all previous songs in ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’. In order to capture the members’ sadness and the process of overcoming it together within the feeling of ‘I don’t want to cry,’ we prepared a group dance of surprising perfection and a unique composition reminiscent of modern dance. The music video was also filmed with great care in Los Angeles, USA, to convey Seventeen’s emotions from the performance. We can look forward to Seventeen’s growth as they enter a new era of change while maintaining the members’ strong friendship, self-production, and performance.

  3. Greta Müller from Hamburg, Germany

Hey! So I just got SEVENTEEN’s album ‘Al1’, and wow, what a ride it’s been! 🌊 The title track ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ really hits home with the feels about growing up and handling sadness—like legit relatable vibes. They’ve taken their sound up a notch while still showing off those killer harmonies that they’re known for. 🥳 Seriously though, you can hear how much these guys have grown over the past two years; it’s kinda beautiful when you think about their journey as friends in this crazy idol life. Highly recommend giving it a spin on your next road trip through Hamburg!

  4. Marisa Knight from Chicago, USA

When I first laid my eyes on Seventeen’s album ‘Al1’, a sliver of doubt trickled through my mind. The idea of another boy band echoing tired emotional tropes seemed unimpressive in today’s rapidly changing music scene. However, as the melodies permeated my thoughts, skepticism melted away like winter snow beneath spring sun rays. Each note within ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ doesn’t just reflect hardship; it brings forth authenticity in friendship and growth among its members that resonates deeply with listeners across oceans—from New York City’s bustling streets to Chicago’s artistic enclaves. This album ultimately serves as not merely an auditory experience but an uplifting ode reminding us that sadness can be confronted and transcended together.

  5. Arjun Vasu from Kochi, India

Diving into Seventeen’s ‘Al1’ is like peeling back the layers of a complex character in a novel—a vivid, textured journey through shared pain and deep-rooted camaraderie. As their harmonies soar and syncopated beats drop, listeners are invited to embrace moments that flirt with sorrow yet glitter with hope. The melodic heart of ‘I Don’t Want to Cry’ speaks volumes about youthful resilience against life’s challenges. Each song reverberates with reflections on growth reminiscent of autumn leaves trembling as they fall—the interplay between letting go and moving forward becomes beautifully tangible within every track.

  6. Giorgio Martelli from Palermo, Italia

  7. Emily from Toronto, Canada
