* Book introduction :

The legendary mystery that led Keigo Higashino to the path of an artist
Winner of the 19th Edogawa Ranpo Award

“Meeting this work changed the fate of a stupid high school student who hated books.”
These are the words of Keigo Higashino, the author who recommended Archimedes Does Not Get His Hands Dirty. The fact that it is a work that made Keigo Higashino, a writer who represents the current Japanese literary world, decide to write a mystery novel, will already have readers interested in it.

When Miyuki, a 17-year-old high school girl, dies during an abortion, an uproar erupts over who the father of her child is. Why did Miyuki not reveal the child’s father until the end, and what did the word ‘Archimedes’ mean by Miyuki at the moment of her death?

Then, during lunchtime at Miyuki’s school, a student was poisoned and collapsed after eating poison in a lunchbox, and the incident escalated to an irreversible level when a body was found in the student’s house.

Since it was set in the 1970s, the social atmosphere was much more rigid. Rather, this explains the motives and oughts of the characters. Since the publication of this work, it has had a great influence on many youth mystery works that have been selected as Edogawa Ranpo Award-winning works.

  1. Emerson Whitley from Vancouver, Canada

Keigo Higashino’s *Archimedes Doesn’t Get His Hands Dirty* unveils a haunting exploration of adolescence tangled in existential queries. Through Miyuki, whose life meets a tragic intersection with love and loss at the brink of adulthood, we are invited into the heartache echoing within Tokyo’s urban maze. The death question unearths not only moral complexities but also sharpens societal lenses that reflect both pressure and fear gripping youth today. As ‘Archimedes’ symbolizes untouchable brilliance amid grime—an analogy fitting for teenage turmoil—the reader confronts uncomfortable realities about trust lost too soon or perhaps never shared.

  2. Elena Cross from Toronto, Canada (verified owner)

This book captivated my heart with its gripping depth. The way life’s complexity unravels in young Miyuki’s story struck a chord within me. A masterpiece for every questioning soul.

  4. Jonathan Albrecht from Toronto, Canada

Archimedes’ tale didn’t just unveil mysteries; it became a mirror reflecting the very complexities of adolescence and untold stories. It beckons you, entangles your heart, asking you to delve deeper into not only what we see but also what lies beneath. As I turned each page under the dim glow of my bedroom lamp in Toronto, every revelation mirrored whispers from friends long gone—every heartbreak resonated like an echo down quiet school hallways.
“You really need this book,” insisted Lena during our coffee breaks at Starbucks by Queen Street; how right she was.

  5. Amélie Beaumont from Lyon, France (verified owner)

  6. Lumi Navarro from Valparaíso, Chile

Higashino crafts an intricate web, seamlessly blending life and death. The legacy of Miyuki lingers—grief clashes with revelation, profound and palpable.

  7. Anaëlle Gorsky from Montreal, Canada (verified owner)

Unraveling the layers of truth amidst teenage tragedy, this narrative provokes introspection on loss and responsibility—an evocative debut that lingers.

  8. Emiko Aoki from Kyoto, Japan

Miyuki’s fate struck a chord deep within me. Her untold story haunts the corridors of thought, lingering long after I’ve turned the last page.
