Korean traditional coaster – Shin Yun-bok
This is a set of six cup coasters featuring folk paintings by the renowned Joseon artist Hye Won Shin Yun Bok, known for his exceptional use of colors.

“Boating on the Clear River” depicts yangban scholars renting boats to enjoy leisure activities with courtesans.

 

 

“Dano Scenery” is a realistic depiction of women celebrating Dano, which falls on the 5th day of the 5th month in the lunar calendar.

“Spring Outing of Young Nobles” is a work depicting young aristocrats riding horses with blooming forsythias to display their elegance while heading out for a spring excursion, often accompanied by courtesans.

 

 

 

 

“Romance Under the Moon” is a work that depicts the meeting of a woman and a scholar beneath the moonlight, as they rendezvous discreetly, avoiding the gaze of others.

 

 “Double Sword Dance” is a painting depicting nobles performing together with courtesans and musicians. This is a dance piece with a sword in both hands.

 

“Enjoying Gayageum Music by the Lotus Pond” is a painting that depicts yangban scholars enjoying leisure by a pond while listening to the gayageum, a traditional Korean stringed instrument, and admiring the lotus flowers.
