서Product Overview
Jeongnyeon is an award-winning comic that follows in the footsteps of beloved titles like Misaeng, Bride’s Room, and The Letter from Yeoni. This story, which won the 2019 Today’s Korean Comics Award, is a moving tale set in 1956 Mokpo.
The narrative begins with the soulful strains of the song “Namwon Sanseong” echoing through the bustling market, drawing a crowd captivated by its beauty. Amidst the cheers and applause is Jeongnyeon, a young woman with little in terms of wealth or education but an undeniable talent for traditional Korean singing. Whenever she watches performances by the traveling female musical theater troupes from Seoul, she dreams of a brighter future, believing that the city holds the key to her success.
However, Jeongnyeon’s dreams face a major obstacle: her mother. Viewing the theater troupe as a “den of sin,” her mother confiscates the money Jeongnyeon has painstakingly saved for her journey to Seoul. Furious and heartbroken after a heated argument, Jeongnyeon defies her mother and heads to Seoul. There, she seeks out the prestigious Maeran Female National Drama Troupe, renowned as the finest in the country.
Life in the troupe, however, is not what she imagined. While Jeongnyeon possesses raw talent and ambition, the world of performing arts proves to be a demanding and unfamiliar arena. She is overwhelmed by the skill and dedication of her peers, particularly Heo Yeongseo, a disciplined and talented trainee whose presence forces Jeongnyeon to confront her own naivety. The challenges of communal living, the indifference of her strict mentor, and the unrelenting grind of honing her craft leave Jeongnyeon questioning her path.
Will Jeongnyeon rise above the struggles and transform herself into a star? Or will the wide stage of Seoul prove to be too much for her dreams to bear?
