Description
Album Introduction: Kim Juk-pa Gayageum Sanjo
Kim Juk-pa, a master of traditional Korean music, began studying the gayageum under the direct guidance of his grandfather, Kim Chang-jo, who is widely recognized as the founder of gayageum sanjo. Until the age of seven, he absorbed the essence of his grandfather’s teachings. After Kim Chang-jo’s passing, Kim Juk-pa continued his musical journey under Han Seong-gi, a devoted disciple of Kim Chang-jo, ensuring the preservation of his grandfather’s legacy.
By blending the melodies of Kim Chang-jo with Han Seong-gi’s interpretations and his own creative expression, Kim Juk-pa developed the Kim Juk-pa-style gayageum sanjo. This unique style maintains the original framework of Kim Chang-jo’s melodies, making it an essential model for gayageum sanjo performance and study.

Growing up near Central Park, the serenade of musicians performing various genres sparked my curiosity for traditional sounds. Discovering this collection felt like reconnecting with a timeless spirit that reverberates in our city. Kim Juk-pa’s talent transforms each pluck and strum into a narrative thread connecting me to the past—strange how far from tradition we often drift yet feel an urge to seek it once more.
